Dothan (Doh´thuhn)

A town in central Palestine where Joseph and his brothers pastured their flocks (Gen 37:17). It was there also that the king of Syria sought out the prophet Elisha (2Kgs 6:13). Ancient Dothan is identified with modern Tell Dotha, ten miles north of Samaria/Sebaste.

Gen 37:17

17The man said, “They have gone away, for I heard them say, ‘Let us go to Dothan.’ ” So Joseph went after his brothers, and found them at Dothan.

2Kgs 6:13

13He said, “Go and find where he is; I will send and seize him.” He was told, “He is in Dothan.”
