Ephrath

Ephrath (Ef´rath)

1 A place on the way to which Rachel was buried (Gen 35:16). It was located in the territory of Benjamin (1Sam 10:2) near Ramah (Jer 31:15), and thus it was not Bethlehem. 2 A place identified with Bethlehem (Gen 35:19; Gen 48:7) and spelled Ephrathah in Ruth 4:11; Ps 132:6; and Mic 5:1. 3 The wife of Caleb (1Chr 2:9); spelled with feminine ending in 1Chr 2:50 and 1Chr 4:4. 4 A Hebrew word the adjectival form of which, Ephrathite (1Sam 17:12), also designates an Ephraimite (Judg 12:5; 1Sam 1:1; 1Kgs 11:26).
