The fourth Gospel in the NT. It is traditionally ascribed to John the Apostle, who is then identified with the “Beloved Disciple” who is present in the latter part of the narrative and is said to have written down his testimony to Jesus (John 21:24). The Gospel of John presents a rather different picture of Jesus’s life and ministry than do the other three Gospels. Jesus speaks in long and somewhat philosophical discourses rather than in parables or short aphorisms, and the main topic of his speech is often his own identity and significance rather than morality or the kingdom of God.
