Sebastiano Ricci trained in Venice and became one of the first great traveling baroque painters. His dramatic and sumptuous work appealed to ecclesiastical and royal patrons across Europe, although many of his travels were prompted by brushes with the law. He produced frescos and paintings for churches and palaces, primarily depicting biblical and mythological themes
