Malnazar and Aghap"ir, Hannah before Eli the High Priest, 1637–1638, tempera, gold paint, and gold leaf on parchment. Getty Museum, Los Angeles.

This Armenian Bible was written and illuminated in Isfahan, the Safavid capital of Persia in 1638. This page shows Hannah, arms outstretched, praying silently. The priest Eli initially accuses her of being drunk but after she defends herself he blesses her.
