Dixon is a self-taught folk artist born in Mississippi in 1960. While working as a brick mason, he started wood carving as a hobby in 1978.His intuitive style of brightly colored carved wooden panels falls into the family of visionary art made by fellow southerners Howard Finster, Rudolph Valentino Bostic or Gloria "Mother" Smith.
