Uh-hi´juh; Heb., “Yah[weh] is brother”

1 A prophet from Shiloh who foretold the coming dissolution of the United Monarchy and Jeroboam’s rise to power (1Kgs 11:29-31; 1Kgs 12:15; 2Chr 10:15) and who later predicted the death of Jeroboam’s son (1Kgs 14:2-18; 1Kgs 15:29). 2 The father of Baasha, who conspired against Nadab, son of Jeroboam, and reigned in his stead (1Kgs 15:27-33). 3 The son of Jerahmeel, brother of Caleb of the tribe of Judah (1Chr 2:25). 4 One of David’s “mighty warriors” (1Chr 11:36). 5 A Levite, overseer of the treasures of the house of God in David’s time (1Chr 26:20). 6 A Levite who, with Nehemiah, sealed the covenant (Neh 10:26).
