Esarhaddon

Ee´suhr-had´uhn; Assyrian Assur-aha-iddina

King of Assyria 681–669 BCE. Esarhaddon came to the throne after the murder of his father, Sennacherib, by his brothers. Some of the cultural and religious policies of King Manasseh of Judah (2Kgs 21:1-18) may have been due to the constant presence of, and Manasseh’s involvement with, Assyrians in the west, although the Assyrians did not require vassals to accept Assyrian religious practices.
