Magnificat


Mag-nif´uh-kat; from Lat., “magnify”

The traditional name for a psalm incorporated into the birth narrative in Luke’s Gospel (Luke 1-2). Spoken by Mary, the psalm as found in (Luke 1:46-55) extols God as Savior and emphasizes God’s care for the lowly, poor, and powerless.
