Gk. mythos
In the NT, false and foolish stories that are to be rejected as misleading and dangerous. See (1Tim 1:4) (“myths and endless genealogies that promote speculations”); (1Tim 4:7) (“profane myths and old wives’ tales”); (2Tim 4:4) (myths are opposite of “the truth”); (Titus 1:14) (“Jewish myths” parallel with “commandments of those who reject the truth”); and (2Pet 1:16 “cleverly devised myths”).
